Thanks to frugal engines, affordable servicing and low insurance rates (starting at group 3), the Kangoo is a cheap car to run. Unfortunately, Renault dealers don’t have the best reputation for customer care and the firm often scores badly in reliability and owner satisfaction surveys. The plus side is that the company is making improvements to the quality of its cars, although only time will tell how far this has gone.

All the engines in the Kangoo range are efficient, although it’s the diesels that are the greenest models. The 1.5 dCi with 68bhp emits 138g/km of CO2 and returns 54mpg while even the more powerful 86bhp and 106bhp versions still only put out 140g/km of CO2 and can average 53mpg.

Traditionally, this has been a Renault weak point but it’s an area the company is attempting to improve. It’s newer products are certainly better, although the interior of the Kangoo doesn’t feel especially hardwearing. However, the dCi engine has been well proven across Renault and Nissan models.
