In their own words

I've used 4 Ibizas for my driving school. Two 1.4 petrols (non-turbo) and two 1.2tsi (turbo petrols) . Wow, the 1.2 petrol turbos are fantastic. Not quite "hot hatch" but very enjoyable, with the ability to make you smile very smugly! The first 1.2tsi was unfortunately blighted by an engine management light.... but that was an early generation car... my second 1.2tsi was problem free (although still had occasional "timing chain rattle" on cold start up - I believe VAG have now gone back to belts). Overall, I do love Ibizas... I reckon they're the "sweet spot" in the VAG line up, where "grown up" German layouts, meet "Spanish design flair". I currently own a Fiesta ST and wish I'd bought an Ibiza Cupra.

How reliable do you find the car?

It's the second 1.2tsi I've owned.... the first was a problem, with and persistent engine management light, and many hours in the dealer. Whilst timing "chains" are a good idea, I believe VAG have changed back to timing "belts"... this avoids "chain rattle" on start up.
