Other Skoda Octavia (2013 - 2020) models:

  • Summary

    4 out of 5 4.0

What does this car say about you?

I am a middle aged family man on a budget and I bought a car for practicality and economy? Which is about right and not very exciting but I also ride a motorcycle which probably says I am a middle aged man trying to hang on to his youth!

What do your friends / family / neighbours think of the car?

I've never really canvassed opinions, most comments have however been favourable.

Would you buy this car again and why?

Probably not this exact model, more because I have tried to avoid buying exactly the same car twice in a row, rather than anything to do with the car itself. I might however be tempted with a higher specified Octavia, if I can afford it in the future.

What are you likely to buy next?

It depends what cars come out in the future. I will seriously consider another Octavia, like the VRS, as staying with Skoda will have it's advantages with regard to my current and any future finance.

  • Buying experience

Type of dealer you bought from?

    Franchised

Did you buy this car new?

    Yes

    What price did you pay?

    £18,240

When did you buy the car?

    April 2014

Did you get a good deal and why?

The price to change was what I had hoped for and the Skoda interest free finance package with maintenance added is an attractive monthly payment which will hopefully give me trouble free motoring for three years.

Is there any special reason why you bought this car?

The car it replaced had become unreliable and I wanted reliability, good load capacity with fuel economy for regular trips the 100 plus miles to my son's university and back.

    What was the dealer like?

The dealer was Silbury Skoda of Cramlington Northumberland and I found the service excellent.

  • Driving it

    4 out of 5 4.0

    What's it like to drive?

I bought the car for it's advertised economy and the space of an estate. I wasn't looking for performance however I am very pleasantly surprised. Whilst not quick from a standing start, the mid range acceleration is much better than I anticipated for a 1.6 diesel. The punch out of corners is satisfying, overtaking is easy and motorway driving is relaxing. Handling for an estate car is excellent. The car can be driven enthusiastically, although this does drop fuel consumption to around 50 mpg. However I can achieved 70 mpg on a long run if I want to.

    What's it like to park?

It's a long car and being a basic model is not fitted with parking sensors but as it is an estate the back window is basically where the car ends, so I have not found parking a problem.

  • Living with it

    4 out of 5 4.0

Have you had any problems with the car?

    No

What's most practical about your car?

The car is economical with good load carrying capacity.

    Favourite gadget, option or accessory?

This is a basic car by modern standards but it has a DAB radio and audio entertainment system with vehicle information and built in Bluetooth that I find very useful.
