This is the most expensive car to wear a Toyota badge and while the diesel engine should turn in better economy than a petrol engine, the premium charged for diesel and the fact that we couldn’t get close to the claimed fuel consumption figure mean it’s a very costly car to fuel. Toyota servicing isn’t the cheapest around but you can expect good quality and superb customer service.

At least this Toyota has a diesel rather than a petrol engine. Sheer size and weight count against it and it records emissions of 270g/km CO2, although this is less than many alternatives. We couldn’t get close to the quoted 28mpg.

Toyota has a superb reputation for reliability along with some of the best dealers around. The manufacturer claims the Land Cruiser is engineered to run without problems between -30 and +50 degrees C.
