The Caddy van will be 30 next year and VW is launching a special edition as a result.
The German firm has sold 1.5 million Caddys since 1982 when it began life as a first-generation Golf pick-up. Nowadays it is based on the Touran MPV and the new Edition 30 will go on sale to mark the anniversary.
Available with a choice of four engines, the Edition 30 can be identified thanks to its black roof, 17-inch polished alloy wheels and signatures on the bodywork.
There will be a choice of five colours available, and a choice of five or seven seats in the cabin. In fact, you’ll be able to buy this model as a short wheelbase car or a panel van.
You’ll get a choice of engines too; a trio of diesel engines with power outputs ranging from 101bhp to 168bhp and one petrol engine with 103bhp.
Edition 30 trim means you get Alcantara seats, a multi-function steering wheel, leather-trimmed gearstick and hand brake levers, tinted windows and semi-automatic climate control.
At the Frankfurt Motor Show this month VW showed the quickest of the bunch; a Caddy Edition 30 fitted with a 168bhp 2.0-litre diesel engine and DSG twin-clutch transmission. This is enough for a top speed of 122mph.
No word on prices or what date we should expect deliveries, but watch out for a road test when the van finally becomes available.
