Stars of the CV Show 2017
Highlights at the 2017 CV Show included UK debuts for the updated Isuzu D-Max, all-new Volkswagen Crafter, and MAN’s first van, the TGE (which is based on the Crafter).
Meanwhile Mitsubishi launched a new special edition L200 (plus showed an extreme pre-runner version), and Ford came along with an extended range of Transit Custom Sport models, the all-new Tranist Courier Sport and its brand-spanking Transit automatic transmission option.
Peugeot–Citroen put the full range of Expert and Dispatch bodystyles on show together for the first time, alongside the new, larger L2 variant of the Berlingo Electric.
Renault bested this with an updated Kangoo ZE with a far greater extrended range, plus the UK debut of the Master ZE large electric van. The 2017 show also saw Chinese compact LCV maker DFSK return to the UK, and Toyota launch two new conversion programmes.

CITROEN
Sadly, we’ll have to wait until next year (2018) to see the all-new Berlingo in the UK. But in the meantime Citroen has shown a longer L2 version of the current Berlingo Electric.
We also saw every bodylength of the latest Dispatch (which debuted at the 2016 show), plus a new ‘Ready to Run’ Dispatch car transporter, which joins Citroen’s stocked selection of conversions.
And as if that wasn’t enough, the firm is celebrating 70 years of the classic Citroen Type H van.

DFSK
Chinese mini truck and small van brand DFSK returned to the UK at the CV Show 2017, courtesy of a new importer and distributer owned by the same firm that handles SsangYong over here.
The four-strong range is set to officially arrive in the summer, with prices starting under £10,000 and there were examples of three models on display at the NEC.

FIAT PROFESSIONAL
Fiat’s LCV arm didn’t announce any new products for the CV Show 2017, but it had a packed stand nonetheless – with examples of the Fiorino, Doblo Cargo, Talento, Ducato and Fullback on display. Unusual gym stand theme, too.

FORD
Ford used the 2017 CV Show to highlight a number of new Sport van variants. These included an expanded Transit Custom family, but also the completely new Transit Courier Sport, which is being introduced because the Fiesta Van is now reaching the end of production.
In addition to this, show goers were able to find out more about the new six-speed automatic transmission for the Transit and Transit Custom, the new air suspension option for the Tourneo Custom, and see the new Transit Custom Colour Edition.

ISUZU
Isuzu announced that it had an updated D-Max pickup in the works back in late 2015 – finally the 2017 CV Show gave UK buyers the chance to see it.
The visual changes are minimal, but there’s an all-new 1.9-litre engine and both manual and automatic transmissions are also new. See our existing story for all the latest details, including pricing, specification details and pictures.

IVECO

LDV
Following confirmation of its return to the UK in 2016, LDV’s resurrection continued at the 2017 CV Show with a preview of the forthcoming EG10 all-electric people carrier. The V80 large van remains its only on-sale product, however…

MAN
MAN unveiled its new TGE large van at the CV Show 2017, ahead of it going sale in September priced from £23,990..
The TGE is based on the latest VW Crafter, which also made its UK debut at this year’s show, but since MAN was involved in the project right from the start, it’s referring to the TGE as ‘truck down’ rather than ‘car up’.
Of particular interest to prospective buyers is MAN’s promise that customer service will match truck operator expectations – including near round-the-clock service and maintenance to minimise downtime.

MERCEDES-BENZ
Mercedes-Benz Vans was not at the 2017 CV Show. Presumably because it’s too busy preparing for the launch of the X-Class pickup in the summer…

MITSUBISHI
Mistubishi’s big star – and we do mean big – was the L200 pickup, which appeared in new Barbarian SVP limited edition guise, alongside the one-off ‘Desert Warrior’ built for Top Gear that inspired it.

PEUGEOT
Peugeot focused its CV Show efforts on the Expert medium van, with a whole selection of models on display including a police version, a Compact model with Grip Control for light off-road work, and an Expert crew van.

RENAULT
Celebrating a very successful 2016 for Renault Pro+, the French firm’s light commercial vehicle arm had its biggest-ever presence at the CV Show in 2017. No less than 15 models were on display.
As with many exhibitors, electric vans are being pushed to the fore, with the all-new Master ZE and the significantly upgraded Kangoo ZE both present – though Renault is also showing the Alaskan pickup, which it has now fully confirmed for sale in the UK.
Those after something sporty that doesn’t have a Ford badge on the front may like the ‘Formula Edition’ versions of the Kangoo, Trafic and Master – new special editions designed in partnership with the Renault Formula One team. No kidding.

SsangYong
No new metal from SsangYong at this year’s CV Show, but interested buyers could see the Musso pickup – now Type Approved to tow 3.5-tonnes – and the Korando 4×4 commercial.

TOYOTA
Toyota launched two new conversion programmes at the CV Show 2017
Toyota Trade Plus is an off-the-shelf conversion programme, meaning the resulting vehicles will be delivered ready to go to Toyota dealers. The first examples will be a Hilux tipper, refridgerated Proace and standard racking kits.
The Toyota Authorised Converter Programme will offer more specialised conversion, bespoke to specific business needs and handled by third-party partners.

VOLKSWAGEN
VW’s big star was the all-new Crafter, on display as a panel van, left-hand drive dropside and a Mobile Service Clinic. Plus the one-off #Crafter2Craftsmen, complete with all the mementos of a 26,000-mile journey visiting 30 countries and craftsmen.

Volkswagen also showed an e-Load Up – a cargo version of its electric Up city car. There are no plans to sell this in the UK at this stage, but it’s an interesting novelty.

According to the organisers, it’s ‘the best attended, largest and the most comprehensive road transport and commercial vehicle event held in Britain, providing truck and van operators with far greater choice than any other exhibition serving this vital industry.’
It also attracts almost 21,000 visitors over the three days it’s on, and you’ll find key figures from every part of the industry ready and willing to answer your questions about their products.

The CV Show 2017 was open from 8:30am to 5:30pm from Tuesday 25 April to Thursday 27 April.
The Birmingham NEC is the venue, probably the most thoroughly transport-connected exhibition space in the UK.
