Fiat Doblo Cargo (01-10) - Review

The Doblò Cargo offers a load volume of 3.2 cubic metres for the standard van and 3.8 cubic metres for the high-roof version (available from June 2001), and payloads of either 605kg or 625kg. Both load capacities are greater than main rivals (Citroen Berlingo, Peugeot Partner, Renault Kangoo and Vauxhall Combo), and the Doblò has a is offered with an uprated payload of 850kg (805kg on earlier versions), although this is found on the options list, not the main price list. This could cause confusion when buying used. But, ultimately, the Doblò can be chosen in a version that comfortably improves on the carrying capacity of rival vans. Most come with a standard nearside sliding door, while an offside sliding door is optional. The rear has twin asymmetric opening doors. The loading height to the rear is 535mm, and the door aperture at the rear is almost 1200mm square. The load length is 1680mm, and the minimum width inside is 1200mm. Load height is 1305mm.

A driver's airbag has been standard on the Doblò Cargo since its launch with an optional passenger airbag, although anti-lock brakes are still optional on some models. Side airbags have become available as options with the 2005 revisions to the range. Customer can also choose rear parking sensors on the latest versions.

The Doblò Cargo is well priced compared to rivals, and you'll also probably find you can buy a newer used Doblò than you can a Renault Kangoo or Citroen Berlingo. Diesel versions are exceptionally economical, particularly the 1.3 Multijet. Servicing costs should also be average.

Well maintained examples shouldn't give any cause for concern in terms of the engine and gearbox, although some owners may experience niggling problems that are a struggle to get dealers to put right.
