The lowest Vauxhall Cascada running costs in terms of road tax and fuel consumption belong to the 2.0-litre diesel version with 163bhp. This emits the lowest levels of CO2 of the range at 138g/km and averages 54mpg. The powerful 2.0-litre Bi-Turbo diesel has almost identical fuel consumption and emissions figures, but costs more to buy in the first place.

Vauxhall Cascada emissions are fairly low considering it’s a large convertible. The 163bhp 2.0-litre diesel version is cleanest at 138g/km, while it averages 54mpg. Impressively, the powerful 2.0-litre Bi-Turbo is only 1g/km behind.

Least green is the 1.6-litre petrol version with the automatic gearbox, which chucks out 168g/km and averages 39mpg.

Vauxhall Cascada reliabilty should prove strong. Much of the engine range has been proven in other Vauxhall models and the Cascada comes under the umbrella of the company’s lifetime warranty scheme.

The firm says its engineers have opened and closed the Cascada’s roof 15,000 times in testing – the equivalent of being used four times a day for ten years. The roof works in conditions from -5 to +85 degrees Celsius. It’s also UV-resistant, so it should retain its colour over time.
