The Tigra is no more expensive to run than any other small Vauxhall with frugal engines, affordable servicing and reasonable insurance groups which start at 9 for 1.4-litre and CDTi models. The diesel is also very frugal and will return 61mpg. The Tigra has also been designed to be cheap and quick to repair with bolted instead of welded joints in many places.

This Vauxhall scores adequately on the eco front, but alternatives with similar power engines are more efficient. The diesel is the greenest with a CO2 output of 124g/km and economy of 61mpg. The 1.4-litre petrol is respectable with 146g/km of CO2 and economy of 46mpg.

Cars with folding hard tops have plenty to go wrong and models like the Peugeot 206 CC have proved how unreliable some coupe convertibles can be. But the Tigra has proved reliable and we’ve heard of no major problems. That said, there have been several recalls.
