  • Summary

    4 out of 5 4.0

What does this car say about you?

A person of taste because in the metal it is easily the best looking hatch going. Makes an A3 look like the German weightlifter beside the Italian gymnast.

What do your friends / family / neighbours think of the car?

They love it. Dad thinks it is rapid and a real laugh and mum just loves the comfy leather.

Would you buy this car again and why?

Yes. Minor Alfa niggles can't detract from what is an overall great experience. Hot hatch botherer with great looks and diesel economy. What's not to love.

What are you likely to buy next?

Mercedes ML320D or Volvo XC60 D5. (for the dogs)

Type of dealer you bought from?

    Franchise

Did you buy this car new?

    Yes

    What price did you pay?

    £14,995

When did you buy the car?

    May 2009

Did you get a good deal and why?

Yes - car was preregistered to the on 0 miles and the dealer was desperate to shift, ended up knocking him down by £2.5k and increasing his p/x offer by £1.5k. Including the usual warranties etc I would say I won for a change.

Is there any special reason why you bought this car?

    Looks, performance, surprising economy!

    What was the dealer like?

Perth branch was a useless waste of time who only wanted to shift a new Mito. Edinburgh branch of Western Alfa Romeo was very attentive and helpful, didn't give up when the missus decided a GT was "too big" and offered this wee cracker instead. The lady liked...

  • Driving it

    5 out of 5 5.0

    What's it like to drive?

Push the sport button for 170 bhp and a sledgehammer of torque. Doesn't let the diesel-phobes kid you, point-to-point driving this car will keep up with all but the really powerful hot hatches. Clung on to a friends Focus ST-2 on the b roads easily, that Q2 limited slip diff is brilliant too.

    What's it like to park?

Stupidly big alloys limit the turning circle but it is only a wee car so it's fine.

  • Living with it

    4 out of 5 4.0

Have you had any problems with the car?

Aye - the cruise control works as and when it feels like it. Also minor but irritating are the cheap plastic clips on the beautiful mats that allow them to come away and slide under the pedals. Really Alfa, should do better.

What's most practical about your car?

Seats 5 - ish. Reasonable boot. Diesel economy overall.

    Favourite gadget, option or accessory?

Q2 diff. Its electronic but nearly as good as the mechanical one on my Lexus. Punt into a bend at lunatic speed and it will not give up the grip. Great bit of kit.
