Fuel economy

Low figures relate to the least economical version; high to the most economical. Based on WLTP combined fuel economy for versions of this car made since September 2017 only.
Petrol engines 39.8 - 53.3 mpg

  • All-petrol line-up is economical
  • The 35 TFSI can deliver excellent MPG
  • 1.0-litre petrols impressively efficient

What are the running costs?

Entry-level 25 TFSI models can deliver more than 50mpg in mixed driving, but Interestingly, the more powerful 30 TFSI (it’s the same engine as the 25), performs slightly better in official testing. During our time with one, we averaged 48mpg and that included extensive motorway running as well as city driving.

If it’s the ultimate efficiency you’re looking for, you’ll need to avoid the automatic S Tronic-equipped cars, as they typicially return about 3mpg less in the same driving conditions.

Move up to the 35 TFSI and you can expect more than 40mpg in every day driving, but driven gently, the 1.5-litre engine will reward rge careful driver with more than 50mpg. However, in town or driven hard, fuel economy drops more than it does in the smaller 25 and 30 models.

Servicing and maintenance

Audi’s servicing and maintenance is on a par with its premium rivals – in other words, fairly expensive, but with high levels of customer satisfaction.

Audi’s standard warranty, at three years or 60,000 miles is less-than generous compared with others. Especially BMW’s, which is three years and unlimited mileage. But you can extend the warranty to four years/75,000 miles or five years/90,000 miles for extra money.

  • Shared platform and engines
  • No recalls as yet

Audi is a less-than stellar performer in this area, but the A1 isn’t typically known for being a troublesome model. As of 2023, there have been no recalls for the A1.

Audi A1 owner reviews on Parkers are very positive with most drivers scoring it either four or five out of five overall, which should give you confidence if you’re considering buying.
