I had an 04 reg Astra 1.7cdti 12 years and had done 180,000 largly trouble free miles.
As I had retired I thought I would buy a modern car to save me any future problems.Having bought the A3 at just 3 years old with 30000 miles on I was well pleased.Its got free tax and does 60mpg on a regular basis.
After a few months it started giving problems and continued to do so.Its latest thing that has built up over 18 months is a "humming" noise.Its had 2 new front wheel bearing and 2 new front tyres,2 new bottom ball joints but is still humming.The heater never was good,its better after the new matix but still not good.
How reliable do you find the car?
I couldn`t believe a "quality" car had so many problems.
Clutch/flywheel had to be replaced at 45000 miles due to a nasty rattle.
Rear discs needed replacing at 60000 because of heavy corrosion.
The worse thing was a silicone bag in the header tank that burst,leaking a sort of silicone sand into the system blocking the matrix.New Matrix fitted and a system flush.
