Audi A8 S8 (2006 - 2011) FSI quattro 4d Tip Auto Owner Review

There is something special in S8 D3 model. I've had a couple of S8 (2006 and 2008). The first one came with pretty standard equipment, whereas the second one the option list had been pretty well ticked off. Without any question the best feature is the V10 engine - it's simply fantastic. Not brutal thunderstorm sounding like MB S63 rather more 'civilised' but the power is there when you needed it. The second 'best feature' in the list is shared between ceramic breaks and sublime B&O audio. The performance of the breaks is outstanding although there is nothing wrong with steel disks. However, the difference is very noticeable, that good ceramics really are. The car is definitely at its best on motorway driving and it is totally 'wasted' in city environment. Personally I think D3 model still looks very nice, better than the subsequent D4 model. In general, its an extremely well packaged car and fantastic to drive. Two things to keep in mind when considering to acquire one: First, V10 is pretty thirsty engine, My overall average consumption has been somewhere 15 MPG ballbark although city rush hour you can see a single digit figure. Second, although the S8 is very solid & reliable, if something happens to go wrong, it's likely be very expensive to fix. Having said that, all in all, S8 has been my favourite car so far.
