The biggest running cost of all is depreciation and independent experts predict that the Q2 will hold its value well, with a future residual value of around 60% after three years of ownership.
Day-to-day costs should be modest, as Audi offers variable servicing which could stretch garage visits to 20,000 miles or so. Buyers are given the option for fixed annual servicing and this may suit low-mileage drivers or those who do a lot of urban motoring.
Fuel consumption is admirably low across the board. The 1.0 TFSI returns up to 55.4mpg depending on the size of the alloy wheels, while the 1.5 TFSI S Tronic averages up to 53.3mpg on the combined cycle. The manual version of this produces slightly less at 50.4mpg. The 2.0 TFSI Quattro is the least frugal, returning up to 42.8mpg.
However, the diesels are even more efficient, with the smaller 1.6 TDI averaging an impressive 62.8mpg when fitted with the S Tronic gearbox (manual is up to 60.1mpg) while the punchier 2.0 TDI offers 54.3mpg. Just remember these are official claims and real-world driving is likely to lop between 10-20% from these figures, while examples fitted with larger optional alloy wheels take these figures down slightly.
Unsurprisingly, the SQ2 is the Q2 model that gets through fuel the quickest (especially if you make the most of the power on offer), but Audi claims it'll manage up to 40.4mpg.

As with fuel economy figures, CO2 emissions can vary depending on the size of the alloy wheels fitted to your Q2.
Therefore, the Q2 30 TFSI emits between 115 and 123g/km of CO2, with smaller wheels offering the lowest figure.
Move up to the 35 TFSI and emissions range between 127-133g/km for the manual, and 121-133g/km for the S Tronic.
At the top of the regular petrol range, the 40 TFSI emits 153g/km of CO2.
The diesels offer lower CO2 for like-for-like power outputs. The 30 TDI produces between 122 and 128g/km for the manual, while S Tronic-equipped versions produce 118-126g/km.
Step up to the 35 TDI 150hp and you can expect 134-140g/km.
At the top of the whole range, the SQ2 emits between 159 and 163g/km depending on the size of the wheels fitted.

The Audi Q2 is based on the VW Group’s omnipresent MQB architecture and this platform has underpinned millions of small and mid-sized hatchbacks across the portfolio, from Volkswagen to SEAT, Skoda to Audi. This scale brings some peace of mind, in our opinion, as all the components have undergone testing at a huge scale, both in the laboratory and in the real world.
There are no specific worries about any engines or transmissions that we’re aware of, and you can rest easy that the latest EU6-compliant engines fitted here were not affected by 2015’s Dieselgate emissions scandal.
We anticipate excellent durability in the sturdily-built, high-quality cabin and the only fly in the ointment for us is the high-tech gadgetry on offer; Audi did suffer a few problems with early editions of its Virtual Cockpit, for example, but these should have been ironed out when it first appeared in 2014.
It’s not all perfect though. The Q2 was the subject of a recall regarding the housing for the rear wheel bearing. This affected Q3 and A3 models and, if buying a used model, should have been rectified by an Audi dealer under the car’s warranty.

How much is it to insure?
