Bentley Flying Spur Saloon (2013 - 2019) boot space, practicality and safety
- Not crash-tested by Euro NCAP
- Based on VW Group technology
- All models feature all-wheel drive
The Bentley Flying Spur has yet to be crash tested by Euro NCAP, and it’s unlikely ever to be. But does that mean it’s unsafe? Of course not – parent company Volkswagen Group has based this car on a number of its existing technologies, and as such you can be assured that it adheres to the most stringent standards.
In absolute terms, it’s probably up there with the previous-generation Audi A8 or Volkswagen Phaeton in terms of passive safety protection – so, not cutting edge, but strong enough to capably look after its occupant should the worst happen.
LED lighting technology also ensures you’re easily seen by other road users.
- Unimpressive 475-litre boot capacity
- Seats five – or four with the optional Champagne chiller
- Luxury finishes don’t promote practicality
Although it’s not for us to say how you’re going to, the likelihood is that rear-seat room and comfort will be of paramount importance.
Overall, it’s large enough to carry four in near-outrageous luxury, which is this car’s raison d’etre. There’s a decent amount of cabin space compared with other cars in this segment.
Living with a Flying Spur on a daily basis wouldn’t prove a chore either – there’s a good amount of storage space, with sensible cubbies dotted about the cabin. Your main issue will be not wanting to damage the high-quality wood veneers, deep carpet and leather finishes.
You’d expect the boot to be enormous to service the needs of those VIPs in the back.
With 475 litres of boot space, it’s not massive, and that’s compromised further if you option it with a Champagne chiller.
