  • Summary

    4 out of 5 4.0

What does this car say about you?

Someone who appreciates a good drive. I like the shape and the way it looks. Don't really care what other people think.

What do your friends / family / neighbours think of the car?

They all think its very nice with the leather interior. When doors unlock at night the rear pillar lights turn on which makes inside like a display car.

Would you buy this car again and why?

May go for a 6 pot but its a minefield as 10 year old BMWs are prone to all sorts of problems. I've had numerous issues but now all sorted.

What are you likely to buy next?

    No plans yet

Type of dealer you bought from?

    Independent

Did you buy this car new?

    No

    What price did you pay?

    £4,200

When did you buy the car?

    May 2008

Did you get a good deal and why?

Yes. Car was priced fairly and dealer was able to deliver 200 miles to my home for an extra £200.

Is there any special reason why you bought this car?

Wanted a drivers car as I enjoy driving. Not concerned about speed as I do not drive fast so a 318 seems adequate.

    What was the dealer like?

    Helpful.

  • Driving it

    4 out of 5 4.0

    What's it like to drive?

Feels solid and good road feel. The suspension is rock solid so you get a stiff ride. Not as nippy as light hatchbacks. Seat height is low and noise is not as nice as a 6 cylinder engine.

    What's it like to park?

Fine with sensors but need to take care if you have nice alloy wheels.

  • Living with it

Have you had any problems with the car?

Numerous. Airbag light on. Sensor in steering wheel changed. Cost £180 from independant. Rear sensors faulty. Replaced 2 out of four now fine. Sensors on ebay costs around £15 each. Replaced them myself. Driver door handle sticking. Adjusted myself so costs nothing. Valves sound noisy (intermittent) but only for a few seconds during starting up. Also clutch juddered and had to replace clutch + flywheel for £700. Gas pedal seemed a bit stiff but was resolved (adjustment) by getting advice from a forum. Door sill came off but managed to glue back on using contact adhesive.

What's most practical about your car?

Boot is a good size and parking sensors useful.

    Favourite gadget, option or accessory?

Auto dimming rear mirror is the most practical.
