  • Summary

    5 out of 5 5.0

What does this car say about you?

Enjoys the pleasure of driving but does not want any compromises. That I'd rather spend my money on tyres and fuel than depreciation and considerably less enjoyment.

What do your friends / family / neighbours think of the car?

They don't have any idea what it's capable of nor how little it cost. They think it looks flash, it came witha private 'M3' plate so have no idea that it's near 10 years old.

Would you buy this car again and why?

Yes I would but I won't. (I'd better explain) I love cars and there are so many others I'd want to try owning. However I do know that the M3 will be the marker on which every other from here on in will be judged and compared to.

What are you likely to buy next?

    Either an E60 M5 touring or Porsche 911 997 Carerra S.

    Didn't buy from a dealer

Did you buy this car new?

    No

    £6,800

When did you buy the car?

    December 2011

Did you get a good deal and why?

Excellent price for cash of £6800.

Is there any special reason why you bought this car?

I had wanted one for about 8 years but due to my age (now 27) insurance was rediculous! Now £1000 I decided to wait no more. I don't regret a single minute!

    What was the dealer like?

    N/a

  • Driving it

    5 out of 5 5.0

    What's it like to drive?

There is something to be said for being in something with less power and hammering along a country road with your foot to the floor and at some points bing 'flat out' Something like my wife's MX-5 for instance, that's no hairdressers car, do not be mistaken! Flat out is exhilarating... Flat out in the M3 is not a sensible option in the UK, goodbye licence might as well be written on the dials! However, the E46 M3 is a Bavarian marvel. I literally look forward to getting up and going to work, simply because I enjoy driving it that much. After a difficult day, lower all the windows and find a nice quiet road, preferably one with a short tunnel and give it SOME-BEANS! That'll sort it!

    What's it like to park?

Disappointing. Because you're about to stop driving it.

  • Living with it

Have you had any problems with the car?

There are a couple of tiny rust spots just starting to appear on the arches. Harmon Kardon CD player and speakers are poor and not worth their £2000+ option cost.

What's most practical about your car?

Near supercar performance with none of the rediculous downsides! Reasonable to run. Comfortable, carries 4x adults easily, good economy on a run (relatively) and a boot big enough for 'stuff' or 'things'.

    Favourite gadget, option or accessory?

The pedal on the far right coupled with a superb manual gearbox.....depress, breath, noise, change, depress, breath....truly awesome!
