Other BMW Z4 (2003 - 2008) models:

  • Summary

    5 out of 5 5.0

What does this car say about you?

I think it says young professional with a touch of style, class and edge. It's probably the most masculine soft-top around for a 20-something young man.

What do your friends / family / neighbours think of the car?

I get the expected 'hairdresser' banter from jealous friends but the sporty good looks means it turns heads wherever you drive - especially with the roof down where it looks incredible.

Would you buy this car again and why?

Without doubt. I'd probably look to get the quicker 3.0 engine which gives you more power but the 2.0i sport engine is perfect for me right now.

What are you likely to buy next?

The newer 3.0 Z4 model or perhaps I may be tempted by a newer TT or SLK in a few years time.

Type of dealer you bought from?

    Independent

Did you buy this car new?

    No

    What price did you pay?

    £9,500

When did you buy the car?

    October 2014

Did you get a good deal and why?

I believe so - the car had a very low mileage considering it's age and I was happy with the price. Managed to part-exchange my old Yaris T-Sport which I was desperate to get rid of and also got a full tank of fuel thrown in too.

Is there any special reason why you bought this car?

I'd been a big fan for a number of years. The chance came along and I thought, why not, life's too short.

    What was the dealer like?

Excellent. Very friendly, professional, personable and not pushy at all. Would definitely return.

  • Driving it

    5 out of 5 5.0

    What's it like to drive?

An all-round excellent drive. I use it daily on my half an hour commute to work which is on country/A roads and it is effortless. The low profile, run-flat tyres means it takes corners like a dream and the 2.0i sport engine is punchy enough to give you some real acceleration. Motorway driving is also great - surprisingly economical and quiet when driven at 70-80mph and cruises easily in 6th gear. The only issue I have is on rough, uneven roads it doesn't deal well with potholes or bumps on the surface and you can really feel them when driven over.

    What's it like to park?

Having previously owned a small Yaris which had a tiny bonnet and rear making it a doddle to park, it took a bit of time adjusting to the longer bonnet of the Z4.

  • Living with it

Have you had any problems with the car?

Nothing as yet - although I've only had it three months. The oil needed topping up (apparently it's quite a frequent job) which set me back £17 for the decent Castrol Edge stuff but apart from that, it's been great.

What's most practical about your car?

I was pleasantly surprised by the boot space. At first glance it doesn't look big at all but when opened up, it's a lot more spacious than you first think.

    Favourite gadget, option or accessory?

Probably the speed in which the roof comes down. At the touch of a button the roof folds down in less than 3 seconds.
