Originally servicing was free for the first three years, although this scheme was replaced with a fixed-cost servicing deal in 2006. If buying used, check whether the car has any free or pre-paid servicing left. Depreciation may look high as a percentage, but the Matiz’s asking price is low in the first place.

The Matiz performs fairly well on the eco front, but newer cars of this size usually emit less than 120g/km of CO2, making them cheap to tax. Only the 0.8-litre model manages this – emitting 119g/km of CO2, while averaging 54mpg. Considering the sluggish performance this isn’t that impressive.

The previous Matiz (badged as a Daewoo) had no major problems during its seven year production run. Cabin materials are pretty sturdy and it feels well built.
