Daewoo Laganza
  • Economy

    Value

    5 out of 5 5.0

You get a hell of a lot of car for the money. All leather interior, 10-CD multichanger, air con, sat-nav... a lot more than you would expect from a car this expensive.

    Costs

    2 out of 5 2.0

Insurance is pretty high, but this is a big car. A bit of a gas guzzler as well.

    Driving

Beautiful, just purrs along. Eats up motorway miles for breakfast. Not the most exciting drive, but still gets the job done in style. Gear change smoother than a buttered otter.

    Performance

    5 out of 5 5.0

Fantastic. Roars up the motorway leaving BMWs in its wake.

  • Living with it

    Reliability

    2 out of 5 2.0

The big weakness. I've had a lot of problems with this car.

It's a Daewoo. 'Nuff said. Though if you're not snobby about the badge, the car itself looks beautiful.

    Comfort

    5 out of 5 5.0

Very comfortable, easily comparable to more expensive saloons.

  • Security and Service

    Security

    5 out of 5 5.0

Fitted security is ok, but it's the fact that the car is worth about 50p second hand that's the best security - no-one would want to nick it.

    Service

    1 out of 5 1.0

An utter disaster since Daewoo was bought by GM, who seem to know absolutely nothing about how the older Daewoos actually work. Had to go back to the garage four times for the same problem, making them either incompetents or liars.

  • Problems and Ownership

    Problems

    Engine

    A flat battery, easily sorted.

    Other

A melted wiring loom that nearly set the car on fire. Worn-out motor in driver's side electric window, causing it to stick.

    Ownership

Did you buy the car new?

    Used

Would you buy the same model again?

    No

Did you buy from the same manufacturer again?

    Yes
