The Dodge was awarded a four-star rating (out of five) for adult occupant safety by Euro NCAP and all cars feature full length side curtain airbags, as well as drive and passenger front airbags. Electronic Stability Program (ESP) is standard on diesel models while petrol cars get a tyre pressure monitoring system.

The Caliber has plenty of family-friendly features and a generous luggage capacity. The boot is large enough for a couple of suitcases and the rear seats split and fold 60/40 for extra space. Most models also have a flat folding front passenger seat. In the front there’s a split level glove box, which has a central compartment that’s air-conditioned to keep four cans of drink chilled.

Above the rear headrests there’s an interior light which can be removed and doubles as a rechargeable torch. An optional extra called Music Gate features a stereo with speakers that articulate and project sound from the back when the tailgate is open to provide musical accompaniment to your outdoor activities.
