The Doblo hasn’t been crash tested by Euro NCAP but should perform fairly well thanks to inclusion of ESP (Electronic Stability Programme) and driver and passenger airbags while side airbags are standard across the whole range. All models also come with Isofix child seat attachments.

When it comes to practical and functional space, the Doblo proves the stand-out choice against its alternatives. The huge boot space can take up to 790 litres of luggage with the rear seats in place and a whopping 3,200 litres with them removed – much more than competitors like the Peugeot Partner Tepee and Citroen Berlingo Multispace. The low boot lip makes it easy to load things in and out too.

However, the large tailgate is awkward and could pose a problem in somewhere with a low roof, such as a multi-storey car park. Customers can also specify the ‘Family pack’. This adds two extra seats in the boot space to enable it to carry seven passengers. Unlike the previous Doblo these are two separate seats instead of a bench and each can be individually removed for extra boot space.

Rear-sliding doors also make it easy to get in and out of the rear of the car while eliminating the danger of hitting other cars in tight parking spaces. Some useful features carried over from the van version are the numerous cubby holes and stowage in the cabin with a useful overhead shelf, although this can be tough to get things out of.
