The Sedici range is priced to just about undercut mainstream family hatchbacks with similar power and specification, but can throw four-wheel drive in for the money. The diesel engine is a much better choice than the petrol but it does carry a £2,000 premium so it’s worth doing the sums to work out whether the mileages you cover will make the extra spend worthwhile.

The Sedici performs fairly well on the eco front. With an average of 171g/km CO2 across the range, its emissions are quite low considering all but one of the models is four-wheel drive. There’s little difference in emissions between the 1.6-litre petrol and 1.9 MultiJet (on the four-wheel drove models), with CO2 figures of 173g/km and 174g/km respectively.

However the diesel is marginally more economical, returning 43mpg.

The petrol engine comes from Suzuki, a manufacturer with a good reliability record, while Fiat has been making common-rail turbodiesel engines longer than any other manufacturer.
