What are the running costs?

EcoSports should prove cheap enough to run. Both engines (125 and 140hp) officially return 54.3mpg, and if you cover a lot of town driving you’ll probably get close to that figure. But if you move out onto the motorway regularly you’ll struggle to achieve such a lofty number.

If you want the most economical EcoSport, you’ll want one of the diesels found on the used market. The 100hp 1.5-litre TDCi officially returns up to 68.9mpg.

Servicing and warranty

The warranty is three years or 60,000 miles, whichever comes first. This used to be industry standard but now, compared to rivals that span up to 10 years, it looks a little bit tight fisted.

Reliability

  • Only one recall
  • Shouldn’t be too much cause for concern
  • Feels higher quality since it was updated

There shouldn’t be much to worry you about Ford EcoSport reliability. The firm has a decent record of building resilient cars and all of the engines and gearboxes have been tried and tested in other models.

Nothing inside feels like it’s going to fall off, which bodes well for standing the test of time, especially if it’s in the hands of young families.

It’s only been subject to one recall since 2017, relating to a lower control arm issue. The owners’ reviews are mostly positive too.
