Equipment

3.5 out of 5 3.5

Five trim levels are available up to mid 2007 - Studio, LX, Style, Zetec and Ghia. All models get driver's, passenger's, and side curtain airbags, Isofix child seat anchors, an immobiliser, remote central locking, electric windows, reach and height adjustable steering wheel and a heated rear window. Several option packs are available including the traveller pack which features a floor and load barrier net plus a luggage compartment carpet floor mat.

The visibility pack is standard on Ghia and optional on Zetec only, adding rain sensors, automatic headlights and an auto-dimming rear-view mirror. From the facelift in mid-2007 there were three trims available - Style, Zetec and Titanium. Style and Zetec remain largely unchanged, while the top-spec Titanium has 17-inch alloy wheels, a Sony single CD/MP3 player, rain-sensing wipers, automatic headlights and an auto-dimming rear-view mirror.

Safety

3.5 out of 5 3.5

A four-star Euro NCAP crash test rating is good, though starting to look a little behind the times when similar cars are being awarded the full five stars. ABS and dual front airbags are standard and all models (except base cars) get side bags. On the security front, the C-MAX has marked parts and etched windows while some models get an alarm.

Euro NCAP Rating

The Ford Focus C-MAX (03-10) was tested by Euro NCAP in and received the following safety ratings:

  • Adult Occupant - 4 stars
  • Child Occupant - 4 stars
  • Pedestrian - 2 stars

Euro NCAP provides motoring consumers with a realistic and independent assessment of the safety performance of some of the most popular cars sold in Europe. The safety ratings are determined from a series of vehicle tests, designed and carried out by Euro NCAP. These tests represent, in a simplified way, important real life accident scenarios that could result in injured or killed car occupants or other road users.

Interior & boot space

3 out of 5 3.0

The biggest gripe is the lack of a seven-seat option - a feature which the majority of alternatives now offer. The rear seats are comfortable enough but they don't fold completely flat which limits the Ford's versatility, and unlike the Galaxy and S-MAX, there are no clever folding systems. It's spacious in the back though and all three seats can be slid back and forth independently - the boot is large too and with 550-litres of space it offers plenty of space for four peoples luggage.

How does the boot space compare?

Check the table below to see how the Ford Focus C-MAX (03-10) compares to other similar cars in terms of available boot space.

Model Boot space
Ford Focus C-MAX (03-10) 550 litres
Citroën C4 Picasso (07-13) 500 litres
Honda FR-V (04-09) 439 litres
Renault Scenic (03-09) 430 litres
