Honda Stream

Want to know everything there is to know about this car?

In their own words

The Stream was meant to be a "bridge car" between two Volvos, which I usually prefer. But it sure is something different. The ride and seats are harsh and terrible for passengers, but for the driver, this is an incredibly engaging car. It is quite fast, but especially a hoot around corners. Everything works well together and it indicates early and well when you're going too fast - tighter than many newer and more reknown sports cars. The brakes are huge and never overheat, but they need a lot of attention, as Honda brakes are known to do - or they'll get stuck. This is especially true if you live in an area with a lot of road salt. Paint quality is horrible, clear cloat is failing and it gets scratched by looking at it. Interior quality is sort of durable, but some plastic panels like to come off. Rock bottom maintenance and insurance cost, as well as good overall reliability, have made us keep the car for more than five years. Thinking about replacing it now, but we might just invest into all the small issues you may expect from a 16 year old MPV to keep it a little longer.

How reliable do you find the car?

The Stream is generally pretty reliable, its main drawback are its brakes. Both calipers and pads get stuck a lot, and brakes should be greased with every seasonal tire change. We have burned through 6 disks and 6 sets of pads in 40k miles! Apart from that, there are several small issues, but none too serious. Interior build quality is average.

Does the car do everything you expected it to do?

This car is unbelievably sporty. Together with the 7 seats and very high load capability (it takes 1160 kg on the rear wheels!) for fetching firewood and other heavy stuff, this has been a pretty solid family car.
