Fuel economy

A more stringent standard for fuel economy (WLTP) was introduced from September 2017, and this model was not required to undergo that test. Its fuel economy measured under the previous test system was 40 - 65 mpg. However these figures are less likely to be achievable in real world driving and so should never be compared to another car's mpg which was measured under the newer, more realistic WLTP system.

With low insurance groups and low emissions, the ix20 performs well when it comes to running costs. Plus the competitive prices coupled with the decent equipment levels and good build quality makes the ix20 a very good buy. The five-year warranty covers most of the usual nuisances experienced in owning a car that long and is even transferrable when selling the car on.

Top of the billing when it comes to the ‘green’ stakes is the 1.4-litre diesel engine. Emissions of just 114g/km and economy of 65.7mpg makes it the best eco proposition in the range. The 1.4-petrol model also performs adequately with 130g/km – thanks in part to the start/stop system as standard.

Hyundai has an excellent reputation for building cars that are mechanically robust and the ix20 shouldn’t be any different. There’s also the added peace of mind that comes with a five year warranty to cover the unexpected costs that crop up for the majority of the car’s life.
