Equipment

4.5 out of 5 4.5
  • An extensive range of petrol and diesels
  • Trims from entry-level S to HSE available
  • Equipment levels higher than predecessor

From launch, the Range Rover Evoque is available in two basic forms – standard and R Dynamic. You can specify either of those versions in S, SE, and HSE trims, as well as the First Edition limited model.

How should you spec your Range Rover Evoque?

Land Rover knows how to charge for options, so Ideally you'll want to go for a lower-end specification with carefully-chosen options to avoid the price going through the roof. The S is pretty well equipped out of the box, but the SE will be your best bet, and still comes loaded with a decent amount of standard equipment. HSEs are nicely equipped, but costly – and we'd guess that the R Dynamic version will attract more used buyers in the future than the standard Evoque.

Safety

4.5 out of 5 4.5
  • Extensive safety equipment fitted as standard
  • Two Isofix points on the rear seats
  • Yet to be tested by Euro NCAP

The 2019 Range Rover Evoque comes with an enviable list of safety features as standard, and shows that Land Rover has been working hard in this respect to modernise the car and bring it line with its rivals.

  • Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB)
  • Dynamic Stability Control (DSC)
This system reduces the risk of skidding on the road by limiting engine torque and applying braking to the appropriate wheels to correct the skid.
  • Anti-lock Braking System (ABS)
  • Electronic Brake-force Distribution (EBD)
Automatically varies the braking force to each axle in order to minimise stopping distance, while still maintaining stability and the vehicle’s ability to steer.
  • Electronic Traction Control (ETC)
Reduces torque to the spinning wheel, then applies braking to the wheel, if required.
  • Cornering Brake Control (CBC)
Automatically varies the braking force to each wheel when the vehicle’s brakes are applied around a corner and the limit of grip is reached. The system will prevent the vehicle’s wheels from locking up and skidding.
  • Roll Stability Control (RSC)
Integrated with DSC to reduce the possibility of rollover, while providing agility and ability to steer around obstacles.
  • Emergency Brake Assist (EBA)
Boosts the brake pressure through the ABS system to ensure you stop efficiently in an emergency situation
  • Emergency Stop Signal
Automatically activates the hazard warning lights during emergency braking.
  • Isofix and airbags
Two Isofix points for baby/child seat restraints are fitted on each side of the rear seats. Six airbags including driver, passenger, side curtain and thorax airbags are standard to protect occupants.

Range Rover Evoque

Interior & boot space

3.9 out of 5 3.9
  • It's larger inside than before
  • Boot space has also grown over old model
  • Still less room inside than most rivals

By their very nature, premium SUVs aren't as practical as you think. The old Evoque was a bit of a struggle for families, really. But the 2019 Range Rover Evoque is much better in this regard – it's pretty much the same size as the old one on the outside, but thanks to a longer wheelbase, it offers more space space inside than before, especially in the rear. It’s roomy for front-seat passengers, but the rear is a tight fit for those over six foot – however, foot and shoulder room is fine, and headroom's notbad even with a glass roof fitted.

There are decent storage cubbies in the door bins, centre console and underneath the rear armrest, plus two cupholders. At the rear, door bins are equally generous and large enough for 500ml bottles, and there are two cupholders in the central armrest.

Range Rover Evoque: will it fit in my garage?

Like any other SUV, the Range Rover Evoque is mostly larger than a typical family hatchback, so it’ll need a larger space family cars. It's also very wide, which is a consideration especially for urban dwellers.

It's not the best thing to see out of, with narrow windows and tick pillars, but there are parking sensors, various cameras and automatic parking functions available as options if you’re worried.

Range Rover Evoque: will my luggage fit?

Range Rover Evoque

One of the old Evoque's major weaknesses was its tiny boot. Land Rover has increased the size of the luggage area as a response to extensive criticism, so it's now capable of carrying up to 591 litres with the rear seats up, and 1,383 litres with them down. That compares with 525/1,430 litres for the BMW X4, 432/1,308 for the Volvo XC40, and 530/1,525 for the Audi Q3.

In other words, if you're looking the Evoque as a load-lugging family car, it's not really at a disadvantage compared with its rivals anymore. That's good news for families who might have struggled with the last Evoque.

How much will the Range Rover Evoque tow?

There are many possibilities here, but for simplcity's sake, we'll quote the maximum towing figure for a braked trailer.

  • D150 (manual): 1,600kg
  • D150 (auto), D180, D240: 2,000kg
  • P200, P250, P300: 1,800kg

How does the boot space compare?

Check the table below to see how the Land Rover Range Rover Evoque SUV compares to other similar cars in terms of available boot space.

Model Boot space
Land Rover Range Rover Evoque SUV 798 litres
Volvo XC40 SUV 586 litres
BMW X4 SUV 525 litres
