Maybe I'm just lucky, you CAN buy a lemon, with due diligence you can get a corker,mine has been a joy so far! Preventative maintenance is key, IF your handy with spanners you can do 90%of servicing yourself, I actually enjoy keeping on top of mine, almost like a hobby project. I easily get 30mpg on a run and 23-25mpg urban (TDV8) They are SO customizable you can easily make yours unique to suit yourself. A more comfortable and practicable car I've yet to experience, my previous was a Mercedes CL500, my Rangie is a far superior vehicle. Feel like a King out on the road... BUY ONE!
