Fuel economy

A more stringent standard for fuel economy (WLTP) was introduced from September 2017, and this model was not required to undergo that test. Its fuel economy measured under the previous test system was 15 - 16 mpg. However these figures are less likely to be achievable in real world driving and so should never be compared to another car's mpg which was measured under the newer, more realistic WLTP system.

Buy a Gran Sport and your wallet will never speak to you again. The payoff for enjoying that 400bhp is a horrendous 15mpg thirst (and that’s driving sensibly) and the need to visit a service centre every 6250 miles for a minor inspection and 12500 miles for a full fettle. With older cars it’s worth looking outside the dealer network when it comes to maintenance.

Reputable independent specialists can save you big money here. But they won’t be able to ease the pain of group 20 insurance or reduce the planet-unfriendly 430g/km of CO2 emissions to a level that make it a feasible company car.

Gransport Spyder is perhaps unsurprisingly a high-emission model. With an average of 415 g/km CO2 across the line-up, its emissions are extremely high. The range is very thirsty, averaging 16 mpg.

Although the quality of Maseratis has come on in leaps and bounds in recent years, it’s best to tread carefully with the Gran Sport which is an older design although it appears to be well screwed together. The electronically controlled clutch on Cambiocorsa cars can wear prematurely though if not treated with respect.
