Fuel economy

A more stringent standard for fuel economy (WLTP) was introduced from September 2017, and this model was not required to undergo that test. Its fuel economy measured under the previous test system was 27 mpg. However these figures are less likely to be achievable in real world driving and so should never be compared to another car's mpg which was measured under the newer, more realistic WLTP system.

List price is attractive when you consider the performance, but it’s a little thirsty for a four-cylinder engine. Its insurance group (16) is on a par with the Mondeo ST220 and two groups lower than the Vauxhall Vectra VXR. Depreciation will still be fairly steep, despite its relative rarity.

6 scores badly on the eco front. With an average of 245 g/km CO2 across the model line-up, its emissions are quite high for a sports saloon. It’s worth noting that the line-up does not feature any diesel models, which typically produce less carbon dioxide than petrol engines with similar power outputs. The range is quite thirsty, averaging 27 mpg.

The Mazda6 has been generally reliable, and this high-performance version should reflect the rest of the range as long as it has been serviced and maintained according to schedule.
