Running costs

4 out of 5 4.0

Mazda expects many buyers will plump for the lower-powered diesel engine thanks to its high fuel economy of 62.8mpg and low CO2 emissions of 119g/km. This will keep both fuel costs and tax bills favourable for both private buyers and company car drivers. If you’re concerned with Mazda CX-5 running costs then beware of the automatic gearbox and four-wheel-drive options, since choosing these will affect economy and emissions.

One thing to note is that all of the diesel engines are ‘Euro6’ compliant.

As there’s so much new and innovative about the CX-5, it’s difficult to assess how reliable the car will be at this time. Many of the components haven’t gone through the rigours of testing via the general public as they’ve been created specifically for this car. However, the firm has a fairly strong reputation when it comes to general vehicle resilience so we don’t anticipate any major Mazda CX-5 reliability problems.
