Equipment

3.5 out of 5 3.5

Electric sunroof, air-con, a CD sound-system and all-round electric windows are standard. Diesels get larger alloy wheels, but don't have traction control, which is on the petrol.

Safety

3.5 out of 5 3.5

No Euro NCAP crash test rating, but all models have dual front and side airbags, ABS brakes and traction control on petrol cars. An alarm and deadlocks take care of security.

Interior & boot space

3.5 out of 5 3.5

Double sliding doors are a bonus and make access easy. However, the interior could be a lot more user-friendly. It's difficult to access the rearmost seats and the middle bench does not slide forward. Plenty of head and legroom and all five rear seats can be removed or folded.

How does the boot space compare?

Check the table below to see how the Mazda MPV (99-04) compares to other similar cars in terms of available boot space.

Model Boot space
Ford Galaxy (00-06) 330 litres
Mazda MPV (99-04) 294 litres
SEAT Alhambra (00-10) 256 litres
