  • No Euro NCAP rating
  • Strong body thanks to carbonfibre tub
  • Some optional safety kit available

McLaren hasn’t sent a 570S to Euro NCAP for a crash test, as is common with expensive and small-production exotics like this.

That said, the signals from this coupe are quite good – standard fit carbon ceramic brakes, a tough carbonfibre tub to protect the occupants, plus a raft of on-board electrickery to prevent you going base over apex.

You can also spec an alarm and tracking system to deter thieves, plus parking sensors and a reversing camera to help protect those knife-edge body lines.

Full-LED rear and front lights, the latter with automatic headlamps, are also standard. These should give you a good chance of seeing and being seen at night time, too.

  • Mid-engine layout means no rear boot
  • Luggage space in the front for squashable bags
  • Agile handling and good visibility in town

As an everyday sports car the McLaren 570S needs to offer a bit more practicality than an out-and-out supercar, and it achieves this to a degree.

It’s not as impressive as the 570GT, which features a glass covered rear boot, so you have to make do with just the space in the front – measuring 144 litres. You’ll get a couple of good-sized overnight bags or a small food shop in there, but forget trips to B&Q.

Cabin space is reasonable although there’s no space behind the driver or passenger and the seats can only be moved so far back before they start tilting forwards too.

There are a few storage pockets dotted around (namely within the doors and underneath the central armrest) so it’s best to limit the gadgets you’re carrying to the bare essentials.

Two cupholders are located low down in a gap behind the floating centre console. These aren’t the easiest to access, which is probably no bad thing. It would be a wise move to limit on-board drinks to those that can withstand cornering forces (those with firmly attached lids) unless you want to redecorate your passenger with pumpkin-spiced latte, of course.

Visibility is good on the whole, with a low dashboard to help you see over the nose and a decent view of following traffic thanks to the concave rear window. The optional reversing camera is a must though if you want to protect that shapely rear end from bollards and low walls.

Around town you won’t have any problems, particularly with the front-end lifter fitter, which any avoids any front bumper/speedbump interfaces. There’s a visible peak in each wheel arch too, located directly over the middle of the front wheel. Not only does this help you aim the nose at apices but assists in keeping the alloys clear of kerbs, too.
