• Summary

What does this car say about you?

    Practical.

What do your friends / family / neighbours think of the car?

    They call it the truck!

Would you buy this car again and why?

No - Kids (3) are growing up now and the space is less important. If I was back in 1999 again then yes. Proved a reliable and useful vehicle. I only do about 5k miles a year in it so fuel costs never a problem.

What are you likely to buy next?

Something with height, possibly a 4x4 with an 7 seats - Santa Fe looks good.

Type of dealer you bought from?

    Franchise

Did you buy this car new?

    No

    What price did you pay?

    £19,999

When did you buy the car?

    May 1999

Did you get a good deal and why?

Good trade in for my recently bought VW Polo (6 months old - ordered before learning of new arrivals. VW dealer offered silly deal so looked elsewhere)

Is there any special reason why you bought this car?

Arrival of twins, needed space to move 5 adults plus kids plus luggage.

    What was the dealer like?

Excellent. V230 was there demonstrator. When asked for a proper test drive, they handed over the keys and told me to come back in 4 days. Gave sufficient time to see if the vehicle was good for our purpose.

  • Driving it

    3 out of 5 3.0

    What's it like to drive?

Van like but not an issue. High driving position aids smooth and safe progression. Around town expect 17 mpg and about 26 on a fast run on motorways.

    What's it like to park?

Easy. Install a parking aid 'magnifyer' screen on the rear window and you can see everything. Wife has no problem either.

  • Living with it

Have you had any problems with the car?

Nothing of note except 2 years ago the steering system (pump) began to pack up. Made strange wheezing sounds. Took it to my trusted (non franchised) mechanic who priced up parts (£2k) then found solution of flushing out system. This proved a temporary solution and now fixed by reservicing parts. Now good as new and only cost £800.

What's most practical about your car?

Size, flexibilty. Will carry anything from kids to furniture to booze runs across the channel.

    Favourite gadget, option or accessory?

Seats. All very comfortable and the rear ones can be moved around, taken out, when tasks require. 3rd row set up (as opposed to all rear seats facing each other) good for seperating squabbling kids & adults!
