In their own words

Our Outlander was delivered with a full tank of petrol in March 2020 and at the time of this review, some 11 months later, I have not had to put any petrol in as I have run it purely on electricity since new. The car is used for regular journies into town, I live in a rural area, and for visits to the local supermarkets so it is always charged either at home on night-time economy rates or for free at supermarket Electric Vehicle Charging Points. The claimed EV Range when fully charged is some 28 miles, but I plan my journies if longer than this around public electric vehicle charging points - This does take some preplanning but is well worth the effort. I haven't as yet had to do any long-distance/motorway driving where the petrol engine will also be used so cannot comment on what the possible miles per gallon would work out at. The Outlander when running on electric alone is that quiet that at first, I had to double-check that the car was indeed running and on the one occasion where the I deliberately engaged the petrol engine to see the difference, I found that that method of propulsion was also exceedingly quiet. The driving position is reassuringly high, as one would expect with an SUV of this size and the reversing camera ensures easy and trouble-free reverse parking. The cabin is also extremely spacious and I have no problems with my 6-foot tall son in front or rear, especially as there is a totally flat area in the passenger seating space, so any middle rear passenger does not have to straddle the normal "bump" in conventional vehicles and there is enough elbow room to ensure comfort for driver and passengers. The rear seat all fold 60/30 totally flat so it makes for cavernous boot space. The rear boot space also has an underfloor, hidden storage area for all the" normal" boot items such as warning triangles, car jack, for storing the PHEV's charging cables. Overall, after almost a year of ownership, I have complete satisfaction with my choice of a PHEV and I have not had a single problem at all.
