In their own words

I bought my pug from a used car garage with a one month warranty and AA extended warranty. It had about 70k. After only 2 months of driving the head gasket failed. Looking around this is a common distance for the 1.4 engine to fail this way. It was covered on the AA warranty, but much of the labour and parts other than the gasket weren't. That was an £800 bill for filters, spark plugs, catalytic converter, cooling system etc. So in short, if you're looking at buying one around this mileage consider a different model without that engine. The M Play is only 1.4 in petrol, but hey there's a funky green available (yellow according to Peugeot) and you can kind of almost play MP3s by plugging a device into a connector in the glove box. Which you can't control remotely. So like all cars at the time really. Ah, branding... I've also had various electrical niggles and wear and tear one would associate with an old car including an earth contact burning out in one of the rear light sets causing beeps galore from the on board computer and the lights to just flash whichever colour seemed appropriate for them with whichever jazzy timings felt right for the moment. Refreshingly freestyle. Other than that, it's a comfortable ride, the steering is very light and feels fairly responsive. Sometimes getting into reverse feels like a test. There is no button or switch on the gear stick or method one must employ to get the stick to move to R. Just stop and slide it in. And out. And in again, until there's a resounding clunk and away you go backwards. (all sounds more euphemistic than intended that). On the plus side the clutch is much lighter than a Polo. The pedals in that feel like doing squats by comparison. Much of my commute time is spent on trains, so I drive this a bit on weekends and it suits me. If you get one, stick to regular servicing. I just had have a rear handbrake cylinder replaced as it was leaking on to the farside drum. Brake fluid on brakes is not the kind of thing you wanna miss.
