In their own words

Stylish old girl that has been well maintained and garaged all it's life. Nice supportive seats and no tears in drivers seat which is so common in half leather seats on drivers squab. I'm 6ft 4ins and have loads of headroom and legs fit comfortably in the cockpit making long trips a joy. Had all 3 keys and key card with the car as owner fastidious about every detail. Alloys unmarked which is a compliment to previous owners parking skills. Boot nice and square thanks to no rear springs intruding and a low sill which is appreciated by the 3 dogs. The rear tailgate square too- too many newer "estates" are ruined by odd shape apertures. Volvo 240's of the 70's and 80's got it right - you essentially want a big oblong space and that's it. 306 drives nicely and will improve when the new tyres go on- feels nimble with nice ride height and supple suspension which glides over speed bumps/uneven road surfaces so much better than my Corsa did. Rear seat bases remove easily and big flat load space results. Gear change is slightly stiff but she's 15 years old - a quick scramble underneath and some fettling should sort that. Aircon needs a re-gas but all four windows work so not a priority really. I wasn't specifically looking for a 306 -Focus Estate/Accord estate possibly but just got very lucky finding a one owner car with great history as most are tired old work horses bought cheaply and run cheaply. Build quality is a bit "tinny" admittedly but the car is well equipped and has side airbags in each front seat as well as driver and passenger airbags. Stylish ,practical and so far 100% reliable estate. I live rurally and a big plus is the sensible width of the car which when passing or parking makes such a difference. Many modern cars have expanded width wise that makes parking a struggle and scrapes in lanes or mirrors becoming an expensive airfix kit on the road a real probability.

How reliable do you find the car?

Replaced rear tailgate hatch Gas Struts with quality branded pair £14 delivered from Germany! Two bulbs in time and temp display replaced. Four nearly new Continental Premium Contact 2 tyres sourced online for £88 will be fitted next week to replace all the nearly expired current set.

Does the car do everything you expected it to do?

Ex partner died suddenly and took on 2 more Border Collies so needed a larger car ASAP instead of my 06 Corsa Cdti which was fab. We had a W Reg 306 hdi estate in 2002 and it was superb. Got very luck finding a one owner 2001 Meridian hdi estate ( cheap road tax post March 2001 ) which had a full Peugeot Main Dealer history. Cost £480 including a full MOT only needed a headlight bulb to pass! Lovely owner , so honest and even came with a genuine Peugeot boot liner. Great looking car in Diablo metallic red and drives faultlessly having done 4000 miles so far without missing a beat. Will replace rear shocks with some BIlsteins before the winter too.
