Other Peugeot 308 (2007 - 2014) models:

  • Summary

    4 out of 5 4.0

What does this car say about you?

This guy eventually started to think about his family.

What do your friends / family / neighbours think of the car?

    Its pretty and functional.

Would you buy this car again and why?

Only if there is a Turbo or 2 litre engine version one day. I really cant stand the slack of power in a combination if high fuel consumption of this one.

What are you likely to buy next?

If this 308SW didnt exist I would have bough Qashqai+2.

  • Buying experience

Type of dealer you bought from?

    Independent

Did you buy this car new?

    No

    What price did you pay?

    £6,000

When did you buy the car?

    June 2013

Did you get a good deal and why?

I think so - £6k for this car on 45,000 miles.

Is there any special reason why you bought this car?

Previous car was 17 years old and when the battery died, the devil told me I need a new car instead of replacing the battery. Sold the old Audi A4 for £350 and the new owner sent me a letter to thank me and say how happy is with the car. While I bought this piece of flashy and practical crap for £6k.

    What was the dealer like?

Typical - nice and promises everything. Then you pay and you are on your own with the problems.

  • Driving it

    1 out of 5 1.0

    What's it like to drive?

Total crap. I am not sure where those 120bhp are directed, but it is definitely not to accelerate the car. There is absolutely no torque especially under 2500 rpms. My wife says 'Come on' 4 times before 'the thing' moves on and joins the traffic or crosses the mini roundabout. Once the car is moving, the steering is sharp and responsive. Cornering is good and car feels stable (a little bit of understeer ). Being a passenger feels good, especially at the back and having the glass roof.

    What's it like to park?

Nightmare - the lack of parktronic makes things worse. You can never tell how much space you have at the front or the back. The good news is that there is always more room than you think, so no bumping other cars when you park.

  • Living with it

    3 out of 5 3.0

Have you had any problems with the car?

STANDARD DEFECTS for this car (Google it): - Noisy engine - Oil consumption (no leaks) is 1L per 1000 miles. - High fuel consumption: 26mpg urban, 33mpg on motorway (when I drive gently). - 'Depollution system faulty' message on the computer. Error code on the ODB-II says faulty engine valve. Car runs fine with that problem (or I think its fine). - Rear seatbelt alarm goes off randomly - with noone at the back or with someone at the back and seatbelts on. It is just driving me crazy. My car: - Engine emits fumes inside, despite I took it to the garage and spent fortune to get it fixed. Mechanics said its just poor design of the flex joint. - Plastic things tend to come off from the interior.

What's most practical about your car?

I cant twist my tongue (fingers) here - This is the most practical car I have come across (I did massive 2 weeks research going through Audi A6, BMW 5, Mercedes B class, VW phaeton, Shkoda Superb, Nissan Qashqai+2): - Proper 7 seats for a big family (excluding obese families) - Seats come off and its a mini van. - In 5 seats mode, the boot is pretty big. - Electronics pack is good: board computer, auto-lights, auto-wipers, cruise control, power in the boot, many more.. - Gadgets and storage is amazing: drawers under both front seats, storage between both seats, glass roof, curtains foldable into the doors, rear seats fold-able tables.

    Favourite gadget, option or accessory?

The seats design is genius: Second row seats are independent (not like the usual two person bench) and you can arrange all the seats in any configuration you like (seats come off easily or can be folded): - 1x0x0: Mini van with more space next to the driver. - 2x0x0: Mini van - 2x3x0: Standard car with big boot. - 2x2x0: 4 seater for more comfort to bigger rear seat passengers. - 2x2x2: 6 seater - 2x3x2: Seven seater.
