1.9 TD and common rail 2.0 HDi (from 1999) are the best engines, giving low-down pulling power and enhanced economy. The 2.0 HDi is more modern and commands higher prices. If you’re buying a 2.0 petrol go for a car that was registered after 1998; there was a power increase from 123 to 139bhp.

A typically French rid: soft and adept at soaking up the bumps. But, show it a corner and there’s lots of lean (passengers in the furthest row will find it nauseating). Steering is good; quick and precise and it sticks to the road quite well. Overall it’s responsive and fairly nippy.
