This will be a cheap car to run thanks to economical engines, low car tax costs (particularly with the HDi engine) and competitively priced servicing rates. List prices are very affordable too although it’s disappointing that air conditioning isn’t standard on the entry-level S model. But service intervals are long at 20,000 miles or two years, whichever comes first.

Citroen dealers can be somewhat hit and miss when it comes to customer care and the brand often performs poorly in owners satisfaction surveys.

With small engines and a low weight, the Bipper is efficient and environmentally friendly. The HDi averages an impressive 63mpg and emits 119g/km of CO2, making it cheap to tax. The petrol may not be quite as impressive, but it’s still adequate with a CO2 figure of 155g/km and economy of 43mpg. However, other small petrol cars with similar power outputs are more efficient and economical.

When it comes to reliability, Peugeot doesn’t have the best track record, but it’s an area the brand is focussed on improving. The Bipper Tepee is based on the Bipper van so should certainly be mechanically robust and there are few gadgets to go wrong. Both engines have been well proven in a variety of Peugeot, Citroen and Fiat vehicles.
