No Porsche has ever been crash tested by Euro NCAP but the Cayman comes very well equipped with standard safety equipment. All cars get six airbags and a sophisticated stability control system called PSM (or Porsche Stability Management) which incorporates a host of features including ABS, traction control and automatic brake differential. Models from 2009 feature a brake pre-loading system which gives the Cayman even shorter stopping distances in an emergency.
The standard brakes are very responsive, but enthusiasts can go for the optional Ceramic Composite Brakes. They're available on the Cayman S but do cost several thousands of pounds.
It may be a two-seater sports car, but the Cayman is surprisingly practical. Don't expect to carry huge amounts in it, however the fact that it has the engine in the middle means there's luggage room in the front and back. The front compartment is surprisingly deep while the rear boot is fairly wide. Together they offer 410 litres of storage - that's more than a Ford Focus hatchback.
Few other high performance cars are as generous and there are also storage compartments inside behind the seats.
