I drive a Renault Clio. Nothing else hopefully.

Like it. Prefer their own cars obviously.

Would you buy this car again and why?

No, its thirsty for a 1.4.

What are you likely to buy next?

Something smaller, an older Micra due to rising costs & loss of full time work.

Type of dealer you bought from?

    Independent

Did you buy this car new?

    No

    What price did you pay?

    £3,500

When did you buy the car?

    May 2013

Did you get a good deal and why?

The part ex on the Freelander was a few thousand off the 3.5k for the Clio. Which helped my decision to buy the car.

Is there any special reason why you bought this car?

I was downsizing from a misguided period of ownership of a Y reg Freelander (money vacuum) and with the Clio I found that I liked the size & design of the car internally & externally. Seeming to be basic, tough & ergonomic which is what I needed.

    What was the dealer like?

The small independent garage was good, the sale was very straightforward with a no pressure approach. I had no problems with the service there. Also very professional throughout the subsequent engine problems which were resolved.

  • Driving it

    What's it like to drive?

Very nice, it is a easy car to drive. I'm 6'4 and its fine. The ride is very good, it feels solid. The 1.4 has enough power to overtake and cruises smoothly on the motorway. If you drive it well you can get to above 40mpg.

    What's it like to park?

    Satisfying. Very Easy.

  • Living with it

Have you had any problems with the car?

1 or 2 things...Though there was nothing that caused alarm bells to ring on the test drive. Shortly after buying the car in May 2013 it became apparent that there was an issue with engine, it wouldn't Idle at a constant rpm - it would yo-yo up & down randomly in traffic. The plug in diagnostic tool said it was a misfire - so a process of elimination took place. Over a period of about 9 1/2 weeks off and on, it went to & from the garage with issue unresolved. By August, it was discovered the timing wouldn't stay set & a camshaft had strange gouge marks on it. So the garage put an 2nd hand engine out of an breakers Clio with lower mileage. So by the September it was running well. Apart from the thermostat gasket leaking oil needing replacement this year its been fine.

What's most practical about your car?

    Decent boot space. Cheapish insurance.

    Favourite gadget, option or accessory?

The Brakes have come in useful. Although the sunroof has been great during this years rare summer. Its hard to choose.
