What is miles per pound?
Fuel economy
A more stringent standard for fuel economy (WLTP) was introduced from September 2017, and this model was not required to undergo that test.
Its fuel economy measured under the previous test system was 28 - 60 mpg. However these figures are less likely to be achievable in real world driving and so should never be compared to another car's mpg which was measured under the newer, more realistic WLTP system.

Saab has improved the efficiency of all 9-5 engines to deliver a reduction in fuel consumption of 4.7% across the range. Saab 9-5 running costs, therefore, make pleasing reading and in particular the low-powered 2.0-litre diesel variant that averages a claimed 53.3mpg.
For best Saab 9-5 emissions go for the the 2.0-litre TiD. As well as its 53.3mpg claimed average fuel economy it emits CO2 at a rate of 139g/km. These are impressive statistics for such a large executve car.
Saabs are fairly reliable and the previous generation of the 9-5 never had any major problems. Saab 9-5 reliability, however, has been questionable in customer surveys for cars that have done more than 50,000 miles.
