Other Saab 9-5 (1997 - 2005) models:

  • Summary

What does this car say about you?

I think the car looks smart and reasonably expensive so I think it says 'He's doing alright but is not a flash guy'... I bought it to be a 'sensible' car both driving and looking and it certainly is..

What do your friends / family / neighbours think of the car?

My car has leather seating and wooden dash and is the Vector sport so it looks tidy in and out and people like it. It doesn't draw comments but I feel it is understated and people like it a lot when inside due to the room and finish.

Would you buy this car again and why?

Yes, I certainly would. I tend to go for more sporty looking cars and have had a couple of the earlier models namely the 900 T16Ss which are now regarded as classics. I have always found Saabs to be practical cars and in my opinion under-priced for what you get.

What are you likely to buy next?

Maybe a later Saab 9-5 diesel especially as the company is no longer with us. This means that the price will be low for a well put together and comfortable car. Either that or a BMW.

Type of dealer you bought from?

    Independent

Did you buy this car new?

    No

    What price did you pay?

    £0

When did you buy the car?

    May 2009

Did you get a good deal and why?

Yes a got a good deal. I think that the dealer had not sold many cars that week and he accepted my offer some £400 below the asking price. The car also needed a good clean on the inside as although it was tidy the leather and carpets were grubby.

Is there any special reason why you bought this car?

Wanted a large car with space for four people and had owned Saab 900s in the past.

    What was the dealer like?

Friendly and helpful, asked if I had owned Saab before ..which I had so he was relaxed about that.

  • Driving it

    4 out of 5 4.0

    What's it like to drive?

Not the fastest off the grid but if you really want to you can put the auto into 3 gear mode and put your foot down and it will go. Very comfortable ride with adequate turn of speed and 40mpg on a run and 33-35 running about town.

    What's it like to park?

It's a big car but it has rear parking sensors which help a lot. I sometimes scuff the wheels which is annoying but it has low profile tyres which makes the alloy rims sit low on the road and they are blow the kerb height. This is more my problem rather than the car's!

  • Living with it

    5 out of 5 5.0

Have you had any problems with the car?

No not really..only minor items like the auto light levelling and a coolant leak. Otherwise it has been very good with only the normal discs replaced and usual wear and tear on engine consumables at service time.

What's most practical about your car?

Very roomy inside and a very big boot. Also it has the winter pack and even has heated seats in the back. Also love the rear parking sensors.

    Favourite gadget, option or accessory?

Favorite gadget is the cup holder in the front and favorite accessory has to be the heated seats front and back.
