In their own words

Received a 64 plate Octavia vRS TDi hatch company car, chosen mostly for it's huge boot. Plus points - Mildly quick especially A roads and motorway making progress is easy. Handling with the right tyres is up there with the best in class so sure footed. Massive inside. Like the seats. Minus points - Week 1 with less than 200 miles on the clock engine sounds like a bag of spanners and loses power so 4 days in the dealership apparently they adjusted/prodded the injectors all good again. Soooo noisy inside, wind and tyre noise horrific coupled with the large interior space and hard plastics really boomy and difficult to hear the wife (ah yes that is a plus point). Not economical for short journeys but I guess that is the case with diesels. If it rains hard and you open the door you will end up with a wet seat from the standing water from the roof. If you open the window from inside slightly while there is any moisture around your arm and leg end up soaked, wife had a mk7 Golf exactly the same in that respect. Unlike the mk7 Golf GTD that had standard suspension, same wheels etc the vRS is unforgiving on low speed bumpy roads which I guess is expected factoring in the great handling and cost cutting meaning no adaptive suspension option. Up until the 20k service it glugged oil sporadically, reckon I got through 3 litres and it is expensive stuff. Since the 20k service not a drop used that makes me suspicious of what was done. Hard drive/DVD unit behind the dash packed up after 2 years lost all my music, graphics etc and meant another 3 days in the dealership. As I type my colleague who got an estate version vRS TDI 64 plate arrived in the work car park and announced his temperature gauge was off the scale and is waiting for a recovery truck, looking like a water pump and his has done 40k miles and is less than 3 years old.
