In their own words

I have a 2014 VRS which was new when purchased. I am very pleased with the car for the money and Lookers(the dealership) in Stockport have been fantastic. So have Skoda themselves as i complained about the hard ride when taking delivery and Skoda changed the tyres to a softer compound free of charge... fantastic. My car is the petrol version & I like the shear power of the engine. I chose the petrol over the diesel as the engine is smoother(particular when the engine cuts back after stopping to save fuel). The fuel consumption is of course higher than the diesel version but i don't do enough miles for that to be an issue. So for those of you reading this and are considering buying a VRS (2013 - 2016 versions) here are a few pointers to look out for which might influence your buying decision: - Make sure car is fitted with soft compound tyres (Dunlop Sport Maxx RT are the ones I have on my car and are much softer than the Bridgestone's). - Check out for a droning noise in the cabin over certain roads which was much worse on the Bridgestone's. I personally think that Skoda have overdone the size of the boot for the size of the floor pan as it's only a Golf after all, and consequently all that space becomes an echo chamber. Check out the infotainment system as the SATNAV on my car is a bit temperamental and the lady sometimes has problems pronouncing words (maybe she's Czech!). - On very few occasions the automatic DSG gearbox gets a bit confused. Especially when approaching or leaving a roundabout - I think it's characteristics of the DSG but some morning it takes a few seconds before it wakes up which can be embarrassing if you are near an obstruction. Don't get me wrong, this is a great car and wonderful value for the money. Although there are some wonderful deals for Mercs and Audi's out there at the moment which come close to the price of the VRS! I don't know if Skoda have addressed the issues i have mentioned with their new model. If they have then don't hesitate to buy one. I hope you have found this report useful
