Other Smart Fortwo (2007 - 2014) models:

  • Summary

    5 out of 5 5.0

What does this car say about you?

It shows you value quality and safety in a small package - along with a quirky sense of style.

What do your friends / family / neighbours think of the car?

Friends & Neighbours laughed / are surprised at my choice (I'm 6'1") until they ride in it - then go away impressed / pleasantly surprised.

Would you buy this car again and why?

Yes, i'd definitely have another - and may swap this one for another after 3yrs ownership to keep that 'just new' feeling.

What are you likely to buy next?

Another Smart - or maybe something from the MB stable. My ownership experience has been exemplary.

Type of dealer you bought from?

    Franchised

Did you buy this car new?

    No

    What price did you pay?

    £6,500

When did you buy the car?

    September 2011

Did you get a good deal and why?

I purposely chose a colour that seemingly wasn't popular with many (bright yellow) as, if I was driving something small, I wanted it to be clearly visible. This car was on the forecourt at a main dealer for a month, so I knew they would be keen to move it on quickly.

Is there any special reason why you bought this car?

Compact, yet big and comfortable enough for two full sized adults and their luggage. Relatively low running costs.

    What was the dealer like?

The dealer was professional during the sales and finance process. They have also exceeded expectations during servicing, as the Smart owners are treated exactly the same as a MB owner.

  • Driving it

    4 out of 5 4.0

    What's it like to drive?

It's a very short wheelbase and the suspension is firm - so the ride is choppy over bumpy roads. However, get it on good roads, the motorway, etc., and it holds its own. Stable, comfortable, quieter than my wifes' Yaris and lower revving too. When pushed, there is a degree of understeer and if you let your tyre pressures drop below recommended levels, the ride can feel crashy / the steering heavy. I can take a 350-400 mile round trip without any major discomfort or cramps kicking in.

    What's it like to park?

The steering is non-assisted, so it takes a good tug on the wheel at low speeds to manouvre. However, you get used to this quickly, as you do the slightly wider track at the rear.

  • Living with it

    5 out of 5 5.0

Have you had any problems with the car?

Wholly reliable, with the exception of the rear wash/wipe pipe detaching itself from the nozzle.

What's most practical about your car?

Without the luggage cover in place, the luggage space is surprising: a full sized suitcase and carry-on fit behind the seats. Umbrellas, triangles, airpumps, etc., all fit in the bootlid storage. In addition, the legroom / comfort amazes many who travel with me...several have fallen into a snooze as they stretch out!

    Favourite gadget, option or accessory?

Adding a cup holder gave me somewhere safe to place phone, keys or wallet without sliding around.
