In their own words

Firstly check the owner reviews available online. Don't believe the motoring press reviews, they are heavily unfairly biased against the car. Owners love them, and for good reason. I have owned the car for 2 years (2.0, not the newer 2.2). Positives - Usual SUV benefits (visibility, easier to get kids in and out), looks great, solidly put together, practical, large boot, space for luggage cover underneath boot floor, fold flat rear with no foot tunnel, powerful engine, pulls strongly at all speeds, comfortable over distance, comfortable heated leather seats front AND back, smooth auto (though the new Aisin on the 2.2 is apparently much better), tows easily and the AWD system is fantastic off road (and includes a diff lock). This will cover the off road and poor weather needs of 95% of people; genuinely impressive despite no low range or permanent 4WD option. 5 year warranty is comprehensive (loose top of gear lever and small break in side chair trim fixed under warranty) and it feels built to do half a million miles with proper servicing. Negatives - Although the engine is powerful it can be noisy (though nowhere near as bad as reported). MPG on the auto version is average (low to mid 30's in mixed driving, mid to high 30's on long runs at 70mph, mid to high 20's, maybe low 30's, on short runs). Coupled with a 57 litre fuel tank this means range is only about 320 to 420 miles on average which isn't enough. The manual will do low to mid 30's TOWING. For economy, that's the one to go for. Interior plastics are mostly hard, but nowhere near as bad as reviewers state and overall nice cabin. Steering is ok but no better (not the 'utterly numb' most reviewers state). High road tax at £270 for auto 2.0, though less for auto 2.2. Dealer servicing costs vary wildly, usually not cheap (around £300 first service not uncommon). Very satisfied, will definitely stay with the brand for my next car.
