The third version of the Ineos Grenadier has joined the range – the Quartermaster chassis cab. This follows on from the Quartermaster pickup truck and the CV version of the passenger car, taking the number of commercial Grenadiers to three.

The Quartermaster chassis cab uses the same extended underpinnings as the pickup truck version, and is designed to allow buyers to customise the rear end of the vehicle to suit their needs.

The front end is therefore very much the same as the Quartermaster pickup, with seating for five in a double-cab layout. The additional length comes on the rear part of the vehicle, with the wheelbase 305mm longer than the station wagon version at 3,227mm. The chassis cab comes with an exposed ladder frame that converters can build on.

When it comes to those suppliers, you are open to make your own arrangements – Ineos has said that it is keen to work with third parties when it comes to conversions, but there are no specific agreements in place in terms of recommended or semi-official tie-ups. However, it has said that there are people at Ineos who will work with said third parties to ensure that the end result can still comply with the Grenadier’s warranty requirements.

There is just the one basic spec in the UK for the chassis cab, although you can go for either the petrol or diesel engine. You also have access to the options list so can add on the various things you need including the different option packs. Order books open today, and it is priced at £53,180 (not including VAT).

Quartermaster on sale

The chassis cab joins the Quartermaster pickup, which started sales in early 2024. This truck sits on the same extended ladder frame as the chassis cab, which provides space for a Euro pallet in the rear.

However, it fails in one crucial areas, as it only offers a payload of 760kg, which is not enough for it to qualify for the beneficial van and pickup tax system. It is available from £66,215 (not including VAT).

Alternative fuel plans

Ineos has previously said that it is planning a pure electric vehicle, although this is likely to be a separate model to the Grenadier. Ineos boss Jim Ratcliffe confirmed that the electric version will be smaller than the Grenadier, and is therefore likely to be based on a shorter platform. The aim is to maintain the Grenadier’s off-road abilities and working approach. It will be built alongside the Grenadier in the Hambach factory – not in the UK as first hoped.

‘We need to embrace the future which, in an urban environment, is going to be electric but even in a country environment and you are a farmer you probably are going to have an electric car that you can drive about on tracks,’ said Ratcliffe. ‘You want one that is capable off road that is electric so that is our vision at the moment.’
